Officials of the Lagos club sais as an
ambassador, Aluko would help the club in its quest to develop their
players on-and-off the pitch. He would also facilitate sessions, attend
club events, represent the club when his schedule allows and share his
experiences with players of the club’s academy and first team.
CEO of the club, Shola Opaleye,said, “We
have been looking out for high-profile professional footballers who are
known for good conduct to work with us as we try to breed well-behaved
and good players and Sone has these qualitirs. He conducts himself in a
very professional manner even after tasting considerable success as a
footballer and that speaks of the man he truly is. “
Executive Director of the club, Sola
Aiyepeku, added, “He fits the model of players we want to bring through
our academy and we are pleased he has agreed to be our ambassador. I am
very excited about the opportunities that this presents the young men
who we are working with and would work with in our academy in the
future.”
Speaking on his appointment, Aluko, who
scored Hull City’s equaliseragainst Everton in a Premier League clash on
Wednesday, expressed his delight at the chance to work with COD United.
He said, “It is a great privilege for me
to be appointed as an ambassador of COD United FC and their academy.To
start a partnership with a club of such strong ethical values and a
growing reputation is something I’m very honoured to be a part of.
“Their focus and commitment to
developing young footballers of integrity and good character is a
principle I have greatly admired since learning about the club about
three years ago. The importance they place on education through the
club’s scholarships, local school partnerships, football in the
community programme and other educational initiatives is a further
testament to that commitment.”
Aluko, 25, has played over 150 games in
the English and Scottish leagues scoring 31 times. He has been capped at
U-16, U-17, U18 and U-19 levels for England. He was also capped at U-20
for Nigeria before being promoted to the Super Eagles. He scored his
first two goals for the national team last month in a 2015 AFCON
qualifier against South Africa in Uyo.
