Knightley, 29, heroine of Hollywood's "Pirates of the Caribbean" franchise and who also stars in the recent romantic movie "Begin Again," said her skinny frame had long been scrutinized.
She told the Daily Mail on Wednesday that her body had been "manipulated so many different times for so many different reasons, whether it's paparazzi photographers or for film posters."
She said women's bodies were "battlegrounds" and "photography was partly to blame." She blamed the "middle-aged white men" in the film industry who obligated actresses to look as buxom as possible.
Knightley recently posed topless for the cover of Interview magazine's September issue.
